Thank you very much for the pretty glass hearts, [livejournal.com profile] darklotus1211, [livejournal.com profile] droxy, [livejournal.com profile] teddyradiator, [livejournal.com profile] irishredlass69 and [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp! What a sweet thing to do.

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day. I didn't quite remember the day until I was on board the commuter train and caught sight of something seasonal. Then I looked down at my clothes. I was surprised to discover that, along with my usual black and grey separates, I had picked a bright magenta blouse and a heart necklace.

Please page Dr. Freud - I'm here for my appointment.

My husband John brought me the traditional roses and candy this evening, and we swapped cards with a show of great affection. He has calmed way down from our early married years. Something about Valentine's Day used to make him insecure, and I don't know why. It used to be he would literally stomp around a few days before, huffing that this was nothing but a made-up holiday designed to keep Hallmark in the black until Mother's Day. Then, literally at the last second, he would panic, and cave, and rush out and buy some p.o.s. teddy bear holding a plastic rose or whatever, which he picked up at the gas station. Absolutely insulting! I told him vastly preferred to put up with his trumped-up stance against seasonal consumerism than to have some grotty "I luv u" satin pillow chucked at me from across the room. Idiot. Anyway, it took many years, but he's mellowed considerably.
