(no subject)

For Mother's Day, my little family went out for Vietnamese at one of my daughter's favorite restaurants. When you're related to me, there'll be no elbowing through the crush of noisy families at Olive Garden, thank you. Too many restaurants on God's green earth for that particular torture. The place was called "Pho Hoc." The wait staff all wore t-shirts that took full advantage of puns on Pho. One kid's said "Pho King," another's said "What the Pho?" Now we know why my daughter got such a kick out of the place.

I ordered something called double mushroom tofu, which was really good, and a green tea milk drink, which is obviously an acquired taste. Groom, the only meat-eater amongst us, enjoyed pork, as well as an avocado milkshake, which sounded like unfortunate typo but actually worked.

Called my own mother and had a nice chat, and I promised to go see her next weekend. This year I have this whole mental list of the big and little projects to be done around her place. Next weekend is the car--we recently learned she hasn't had taken it out of the garage for over six months. (Well, we said "How long has it been? Six months??" and she shrugged noncommitally, so it might well have been longer.) It seems her IHSS helper squires her about. Lovely. The car will need a battery jump, fluid and brake inspection, tire massages, and I don't know what all. We'll see. This is how we adult kids say thank you to our mothers, you know: we educate them about ethnic food and run checkups on their cars.

Finally watched Season 3 of Sherlock tonight. So many in-jokes and gifs are now explained! Now I know the reason for this t-shirt.

Hey, we secured a vacation cabin today! And the crowd goes wild!

When my mom was alive, I took her out for Mother's Day the day before. That and Valentine's Day are the worst days to go to a restaurant. The lines are only part of it. Usually they have a "special" menu that is severely limited as opposed to their regular menu. And service usually sucks because the waitstaff have too many tables all at one time. Being on the waitstaff end of this equation cured me forever of any desire to go to a restaurant on days it's apt to be a clusterfuck. Or even a "cluster Pho."

That was a sensible plan, the meal on the day before. Now that my daughter's a restaurant server, I've heard all sorts of hair-raising stories about busy holidays in food service.

Yay for vacation!

I'm glad you had such an enjoyable mother's day. I was surprised at the number of people who wished me a happy mother's day both yesterday and Saturday. Rather than explain that the only children I had were of the fuzzy, asshole-ninja variety, I just smiled and said thank you.

Right. Off to call the boss to get chewed out. He doesn't like the fact that I'm not jumping around throwing confetti over our new reporting system and wants to drag my arse over the coals. Happy Mondays!

Why do bosses get so invested in new systems to where they get mad at *us* when it doesn't work right? Good luck today, sweetie.

I have to say, he sounded just as frustrated as me. Everything's ok with us, but we're going to go under if they don't fix this damn thing soon. It's giving our work away to other reps because of the way it's set up.

Oh lord, the Olive Garden, LOL! You know they were packed.

Sounds like a productive day all the way around!

My husband and a friend of his used to have a running joke about a fusion Asian-Mexican-anything-you-can-think-of-ian restaurant they were going to start called "Pho Shizzle."

Turns out there actually are already restaurants called that.

Oh my gosh, I love Vietnamese food and that restaurant sounds so fantastic! What the Pho—*laughter*

What did you think of Sherlock's third season? :)

[identity profile] stgulik.livejournal.com 2015-05-13 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Very solid, with lots of surprises and things that made me laugh with pleasure. I think I liked the wedding episode the best, simply because it started out so dry, it nearly bored me to death. Suddenly, every element clicked into place for Sherlock at the same time as the viewer. Excellent timing and plotline.

I get the fair impression that, with this season, the writers have finally decided to cater firmly to fangurls. My god, there was an abundance of UST between John and Sherlock. I don't ship them at all, but even I fully expected them to fall into bed after that business with Mary in the railway house. Nobody can endure that much smoldering eye contact and not want to give into the urge to take the next step! But maybe I read too much into it all; I did watch every episode in one day, which was probably more intense an experience than was intended.

I'm so glad!! TBH my favourite bit of the wedding episode is Sherlock's interaction with the kid. Also the "high-functioning sociopath. with your number. (cue grinch-like grin)"

There is SO much UST between John and Sherlock, even in the originals. I love how it's portrayed in the show, but I do agree that all at once is a little much!!

Do you have any ships on the show?

[identity profile] stgulik.livejournal.com 2015-05-13 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson. No, just kidding! I have no ships on the show. But having said that, I could replay that slow-motion kiss between Sherlock and Molly all day. Mm.

That was definitely a swoon-worthy moment, for sure!
