Dinner and a Sweater

Went out to dinner last night with my daughter and her boyfriend. We went to some Italian franchise that's become really popular. Their gimmick is, certain meals on the menu include a second portion that is already boxed and ready to take home. You order your "today" meal and your "tomorrow" meal in one transaction. It's clever. Some of us couldn't even finish our today entrees, so we brought a lot home. And I learned again that it's not economical to order wine with my meal, let alone two glasses of it. Why do I do it? Because it's fun and I can afford it at the beginning of the month, oh yeah. But it's home cooking and iced tea again until October, folks.
Anyway, a fun night out. Restaurants are neutral territory, perfect for asking the questions young people normally get so touchy about, like what's your major and are you really saving for college or just on a mission to order conceivably every single solitary thing off the hottopic.com website just curious ha ha you know I love you.
Do you know, my daughter bought me sweaters yesterday? Here's the thing: she borrows my sweaters and then she washes them badly. She washes my sweaters with like the towels and jeans, in warm water, and then dries them on the hottest setting. And they come out wrinkled and pilled and stretched. Which is, you know, the look for a college girl, but my sweaters are no longer fit to be seen at my office. Nothing I have said to her has kept her from doing this. No less than four of my cotton knit sweaters have Fallen Into Darkness And Shadow at her hands.
And then yesterday she says, I have a present for you! And she brought out two lovely cotton knit sweaters, just for me. There's a chance that when she eventually leaves us, she will be socialized.
