A busy weekend
After a so-so week, I hand-crafted a nice, busy weekend full of delights.
Groom and I went Christmas shopping on Saturday. The key to shopping when you're middle-aged is to work on small, easily-managed goals. In this case, we cruised through just three shops, looking for very specific things. Easy-peasy. Then, basking in our triumph, we retired to Nation's for hamburgers (and veggie burgers).
Saturday evening, we drove up to the foothills to see a bluegrass band. The founding member of this band used to go to our church, back when we were church-goin' folk. He and his wife retired and moved to the mountains, and now his new band plays once a month at this gorgeous old gold rush hotel and saloon. We were joined by my sister in-law and her son, who just came home from college. We took over couches and chairs and hung out together for hours, listening to the band and pretending to sing along. My gosh, I had fun. And bluegrass music is so great! Melodic, expressive, and sometimes funny as heck. I think I will make it my New Year's resolution to learn all about it.
Then Sunday we saw ... yes ...
THE FORCE AWAKENS!
Which was every bit as good as I had heard. If you haven't seen it yet, and you want to, and by some miracle you have so far avoided internet spoilers, for pity's sake, quit tempting fate and GO NOW. There will be room for you. And if you, like me, accidentally nap a teeny tiny bit during the exposition, don't beat yourself up. It's not like you won't watch it a bunch more times in your life!
