I have a new 40-something coworker, and she is already distinguished in my mind because she likes Harry Potter. I don't know about you, but in my little world, such a woman is rare.
We all went out to lunch today, and I mentioned that my daughter had settled on a theme for her birthday: Harry Potter Quincinera.*
The new coworker said, "Omigod, I love Harry Potter. Absolutely love." Just like that! Right out loud! Her potential as a friend rose exponentially. However, she's not quite as HP-obsessed as I am. For one thing, she hasn't read the books. "I'm saving them," she says. For what?? That's unfathomable. Still, it's a start. And if anybody can exhort her to get moving on the books, it's me.
*Remember she was trying to choose between them? Well, she went ahead and combined them. I asked her what she envisions such a party looking like. "Fluffy dresses, Taco Bell and a Horcrux scavenger hunt," she replied. This is why I like her so much. In other news, we have to make seven or eight** Horcruxes between now and February 18 and prepare to hide them throughout the neighborhood. So don't go anywhere.
** Do you think I could talk a boy into painting a lightning bolt on his forehead and skulking around a few streets away from here, waiting to get caught?
