The fanfic post I promised

So last spring,
het_bigbang opened. No exchange, no prompt list - just a minimum word count, and any fan base is permitted as long as the main pairing is het. I showed the announcement to
teddyradiator and said hey, this sounds like just your bag. You should participate - or, maybe we should, you know, collaborate on something. She squeeeed so loudly, I could hardly hear myself type! Next thing I know, we were both knee-deep in chapters and summaries and to-do lists on Google Docs.
So we've been collaborating on an HP fic all summer, and I can't even describe how much fun this project has been. "Giddy excitement" might cover everything I felt. So might "weirdly obsessive."
And when we needed a beta, the lovely
toblass stepped up. Her help was invaluable.
I just uploaded the fic in AO3 but it won't be Revealed by the het_bigbang mods until August 31. I'm forbidden to tell you anything about it, but I'm absolutely chomping at the bit. Watch this space.
Speaking of toblass, I got to meet her last weekend! She came to my neck of NorCal to visit family, so she gave me directions and I drove out to her brother in-law's house to meet her. It was out in the middle of nowhere! But when I got there, I was overwhelmed by their hospitality and treated to a delicious lunch. Then toblass and I headed off and dished about y'all for a few hours. It was a wonderful visit. I hope we can meet again some time soon!
Toblass gifted me with a bottle of Cline zinfandel, which I cracked open on Thursday. The description on the label really amused toblass: "Cline's Ancient Vines Zinfandel is a deep, luscious wine with notes of black cherry, strawberry and a hint of dark chocolate." On my budget, I can only afford wine with one note! After it had a chance to breathe, it turned out to be a lovely companion - full-bodied, springy and flavorful. I think I can indeed taste all those notes, so well done, Cline family. Toblass, thank you so much - for this, and for taking on our fic and fixing the holes!

Date: 2012-08-25 09:02 pm (UTC)I try to learn from every fic I write. Usually it's a writing technique, sometimes it's something about my own psyche. This project taught me that a good outline is a wonderful thing, and that I should really learn how to make one for the next big fic I ever do.
I also want to thank Toby for
Onward, Jules - let's get going on a new one!
