Rockaway Beach
From the mountains to the ocean in a week!

This is Rockaway Beach, somewhere between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, where we stopped for lunch. I had a bit of an uncomfortable deja vu moment when I caught sight of this place. I remember visiting here with my mom and my brother when I was a teenager and my parents were freshly divorced. The three of us had been squabbling in the car all day. At night we stayed at a dreadful little motel just out of camera range. The tension between us was so thick I have honestly blocked a good bit about it. But at low tide, we sat on the beach together and stared out at the ocean and said 'fuck' a lot and managed to achieve a bonding moment of sorts. It was a start.

But I digress! There were no such tensions on this trip. We drove to Pescadero and stayed at a resort called Costanoa. Californians, if you're looking for a good place to stay along the coast, I highly recommend their cute bungalows. Spring for the hot tub, too; it's lovely.

We spent a lot of time on the beach taking sunset shots with the big-boy cameras. Here's one from my cell phone:

Pigeon Point Lighthouse

And now, back to work...

Sorry to hear about the bad memories, but I hope this trip was enjoyable. Were you having lunch at Nick's? This was practically in my backyard! Well, not really...but almost.

How beautiful! There is a place in England called the Isle of Wight which boasts a coastline so similar to the first pic that for a moment, I thought that's what the photo actually was.

I'm glad this trip was able to dispell some not so pleasant memories, and help make some new shiny nice onces.
