From my newsfeed:

Stateline's Melissa Maynard reports on a proposed pilot program in Oregon "that would fund treadmill desks for some state workers and study the effects on health and productivity. Treadmill desks range in cost from $400 to $5,000, but the hope is that the state could recoup its expenses through lowered health care costs over the long run."

Pop Quiz (worth 25 points):

1. When I read on stgulik's livejournal today that a state government might experiment on civil servants by making them run on treadmills, my first thought was,

a) To paraphrase Paul Linde, "It's a rat race out there, and the rats are winning!"
b) Something just as funny, which I will share in the comments!

They already run on figurative treadmills; it was only a matter of time before the figurative manifested literally.

(I'm SURE this MUST have been an April Fool joke. Right????)

I see a future of treadmills covered in paper boxes and gathering dust.

CAN PEOPLE SOLVE REAL PROBLEMS please, instead of this type of bullshit?

This is what is wrong with government. My tax dollars and fees should not be paying these people to exercise, we are paying them to process govt work.

I cant type and treadmill at the same time. I doubt the govt employees can.

Maybe they should equip the desks with bike peddles to power the computer only when the employees are surfing the net? ROTFLMAO They can call that green technology.

WTF? And with tax dollars, too??? Give them a kitchen timer and tell them to set and go for a walk down the hall when it goes off.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] mimimanderly in thinking this MUST be an April Fool's thing?

Just imagine the lawsuits that could ensue! There'd be public servants lined up at shysters' offices bedecked in neck and back braces, crutches, casts on broken ankles... I'm giggling away picturing it.
