It's strange to be home. Though it wasn't our first choice to stay at a resort whose heyday had passed before I was born, the place really grew on us.

Even the dogs miss it. The Flamingo in Santa Rosa provides "pet-friendly" rooms, located on the ground floor and featuring Pergo flooring instead of carpeting. Near the room was a nice shady dog run. Every morning, I would take my four-legged children bye-bye on a walk so they could get their daily exercise. Cousins liked to bring them treats from dinner. All in all, the dogs quickly got used to vacation, and seemed eager to return to the room even after we'd packed to leave. Hedonists.

My sister in-law quickly sussed out the politics of the pool area. Every morning about 7:30, she would bring out tote bags and towels and stake out the pagoda. The family would proceed to lounge the rest of the day, swimming, ordering things from the menu, sharing letters and pictures, and playing Scrabble.

We drove to the ocean. We paid exorbitantly for pedicures. I tried Bulleit bourbon and now nothing less will satisfy me. Can't imagine why I'm sad to be home, can you? ::sigh::

In other news, I'm happy to report that St. Gulik's Room of Good Intentions is tamed once again! Yes, I spent all my weeknights one week organizing the room in time for my book club's meeting. Now it's - well, not beautiful, but functional and nice to look at.

Sounds like a lovely holiday all round - I'm glad you all enjoyed yourselves - even the four-legged babies.

Bulleit Bourbon, eh? Now you KNOW I'm going to have to try it.

I even priced a bottle at the store tonight. Le sigh.

That sounds positively like paradise. I'm envious of the pet-friendly rooms, the pagodas, the Bulleit bourbon, but especially the Scrabble by the pool!

There were so many activities to choose from. I'm not as good at Scrabble as I wish ... so I got lots of reading done, LOL.

Your SIL reminds me of the stories all Brits tell during their holidays. According to them, each morning the German tourist get out to the pool earlier than everyone else and get all the best chairs by putting their towels on them. Every British person I know swears it's true.

Dearest stgulik--you were on vacation this past week? *hangs head guiltily in shame* Sorry, I didn't know... or most likely, I forgot in my scattered-brain way! *before crawling back into my cave* I'm so glad you had a fantastic time--I love it that they were pet friendly--God bless them! Your SIL deserves a medal for her hutzpah and tracking & laying down claim, staking out the poolside pagoda--she's a definite keeper-as-a-travelling-companion, lol! I bet no one dared to even think to touch a towel--my kinda of gal:-) Bulleit bourbon, eh? It looks so *smooth*;-) Again, sounds like you had a fantastic time--YAY!

Well ... there are vacations and then there are vacations. This vacation was not for relaxing. It was for being busy and sociable with family. The times I needed to unplug from family, it was wonderful to come back to the hotel room and do a little beta work all by myself!

Bulleit's not very hard to find nor that terribly expensive. Trader Joe's and BevMo both carry it, <$25 a bottle depending on exactly what sale you may happen to hit.
