Man of parts

What does the phrase "man of parts" mean? As in "We must show them we are men of parts." I'm writing a piece where two of our favorite wizards have lost all money, power and prestige. Now they must convince strangers they are redeemable, ready to join forces with them.

According to Wiki and other sources, a "man of parts" is someone who is talented in multiple areas. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/man_of_parts

I think it comes from the theatre, where one actor could play several roles, hence a man of parts, one who can do many things.
