It's International Left Handers Day!

How nice that left handers are acknowledged one day of the year, just like secretaries and tacos and trees. But don't forget, we left handers live among you every day of the year. So treat us with respect. Do not gawk and stare as we hold pens and pencils! Do not ask us how we manage to walk without tripping! If you annoy us too much, we will steal all your right-handed tools and you will be forced to use these.

these.

In other news, this is my first LJ blog entry using the Semagic application. I've been slowly learning all its functions and I can tell already it's much more substantial than the regular LJ blogging platform. I'm already impressed by two things: a) if you highlight text and click the Quick Link button, it will link any URL you've highlighted elsewhere, automatically. And b) if you accidentally close the blog entry before you're done (as I do, constantly), it's fully recoverable. Thanks kribu, rivertempest, melusin-79, and beffeysue for recommending it yesterday!

I'm glad you're finding Semagic useful!

In case you haven't found all the handy features yet (or if anyone else seeing this is interested), you can easily import your LJ friends list (Journal -> Edit friends -> Update from server), and then it's easy to input people's LJ names from the LJ user drop-down list.

Ah - I wondered what that button would do. Thanks, I'll work on that!

I loved Semagic. The only bad thing about Dreamwidth is that Semagic doesn't work with it (since the posting technicalities are different - I mean, you can post a basic post with it and pick an icon, but, for example, you can't post with any security filters because of the access/subscription split on DW, nor can you have the "linked crossposts" functionality) and no one else has yet programmed a client I find usable. I had to bite the bullet and start posting from the web form after years of using Semagic. It was sad.

Ack, sorry about the duplicate! Don't know what happened there; I didn't click twice or anything.

Playing catch-up after a week-and-a-half of being under the weather...

My parents, God bless 'em, got me all those left-handed tools when I was a kid, and every single one of them ended up in the garbage, especially those left-handed scissors.

To this day I pretty much only use my left hand to write with, and to use my computer mouse (never could adapt to using it with my right hand). Everything else I do with my right hand, especially cutting with scissors! :-o

I'm going to check out that Semagic program you've all been praising... :-)

I originally learned to cut with right-handed scissors, thank goodness. I own lefty scissors but their main purpose is to bug the crap out of unsuspecting righties. :-)

I've taught myself to be ambidextrous on the mouse. When you move the computer mouse on the left side, do you also switch the buttons in the Control Panel?

Nope. Since the 1980s I've had to share computers at work with so many righties that it didn't make sense to go thru the bother of resetting the buttons, so I keep the buttons set for right-handed use, just move the mouse to the left side.

I've found that it's a lot easier for lefties to adapt to right-handed stuff than it is for righties to try to adapt to left-handed stuff....

LOL Yeah, I've found the same. Most Righties just aren't of a mindset to adapt because they're in the majority.
